Memorial and stop

Stop The memorial, being a Roman milestone symbol, has been selected on purpose as it reminds of one characteristic object commonly present along roads of the Roman Empire. The milestones were stone pillars standing at regular distances along roads indicating the distance to various destinations. In the city of Rome, there was the so-called golden milestone from which distances were calculated. Every milestone was numbered and it also provided information on who had it created.

Milestones characterised by shape unity were built along roads of the Roman Empire. Two to three meter high stone pillars with a round or elliptical cross section were fitted in a support. The inscription indicated the distance to the initial point (caput Viae in Latin) in Roman miles and the name of the location, year of creation and construction interference. The emperor was titled the builder. The construction of milestone was used as propaganda of emperors.
